Wednesday, December 30, PM. Yes I used this clean boot approach with my Dell Studio 17 running bit Win 7 and IE8 kept getting "not responding" in IE8 when starting video clips. My touchpad still works although of course I no longer have many of the features of the synaptics software such as pinch zooming and scrolling features using the touchpad. So at least in my case, the problem appears to be the synaptics touchpad software!
Sunday, January 3, PM. Monday, January 4, AM. I had the problem a few months back, thought the cause was Adobe Flash Player and updated. Had no problems for a few months until today, flash animations again locking up IE8. I think the problem is with Adobe software, though the newest update installed a few minutes ago did not fix it.
Thursday, January 7, AM. Never mind, I fixed mine. It was not the flash animations but the audio accompanying it. Uninstalled and everything is great.

Skype works just fine without the Internet Explorer Add-on. By disabling the Add-on you are able to click on a phone number in a web page and call it, that's all. Seem to work for me after i disable the skype add-on, i am running win7pro x64, ie8. I used to have so much problem with it i start using firefox, but lately i am having the same if not worst "not responding" on the firefox also.
